Wildfires spread across Japan, threatening homes

Wildfires in Japan continue to spread across multiple regions despite ongoing firefighting efforts from air and ground crews.

In Ehime Province, a wildfire in Imabari City has destroyed at least 306 hectares since Sunday, damaging several homes. In Okayama City, Okayama Province, another fire has burned 311 hectares and affected six buildings. A new wildfire also ignited Tuesday in Miyazaki Province, adding pressure to emergency responders.

The Japanese government has deployed helicopters to assist in controlling the fires, while thousands of residents have been ordered to evacuate. Despite overnight efforts, the fires remain uncontained, with flames reaching residential areas. Helicopter operations resumed early Wednesday to continue containment efforts.
