Parts of Visayas were expected to experience higher heat index levels on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Forecasts showed many areas in Western and Central Visayas registering heat indices between 33°C and 41°C, with some locations possibly exceeding 42°C during peak afternoon hours.

Weather officials said these levels fell under the “extreme caution” category, which could lead to heat cramps and exhaustion, while higher readings raised the risk of heat stroke.

Negros Occidental and portions of Cebu were seen to sustain elevated temperatures, while humidity was expected to further increase the heat index in coastal and low-lying communities in Panay Island.

Authorities warned that prolonged exposure to high temperatures, especially around midday, could pose health risks, particularly for outdoor workers and vulnerable groups.

In Iloilo, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. earlier ordered precautionary measures under an executive directive addressing hazardous heat conditions.

The measures included setting up designated evacuation areas and implementing safety protocols in schools and workplaces.

Residents were advised to limit outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and take regular breaks as high temperatures were expected to persist through midweek.
