Vico not qualified to run for pres in ’28

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has formally ruled out running for any elective position in the 2028 elections, saying he intends to focus solely on his duties during his final term in office.

“2028, hindi ako tatakbo. Ngayon pa lang sinasabi ko na sa inyo. Kaya malaya akong gawin kung anong tingin ko ang tama,” Sotto declared during his inaugural address on Monday, marking the start of his third and final consecutive term as mayor—the maximum allowed under the Philippine Constitution.

Sotto said his early decision to step away from politics after 2028 frees him from electoral considerations and gives him the independence to carry out what he believes is best for Pasig without the burden of political baggage.

Now entering his sixth year in office, Sotto reaffirmed his commitment to advancing reforms and policies focused on good governance, transparency, and inclusive public service—principles he has championed since his election in 2019.

“Hindi ninyo masasabi na may bahid ng politika. At ‘yung hindi ko masabi noong campaign period, ngayon pwede ko na pong sabihin, sa lahat ng aming katunggali, we extend a hand of peace, we extend a hand of unity. Kung maaari, magtulungan tayo para sa ikagaganda ng ating lungsod,” he said.

However, Sotto also made it clear that unity does not equate to impunity. He said that while his administration is open to reconciliation, it will not turn a blind eye to past abuses.

“Ngunit, kailangan may managot sa mga krimen na naganap,” he added.

As he does his final term, Sotto reiterated his commitment to continuing the good governance agenda that has defined his leadership, vowing to work until the end of his tenure to build a better and more inclusive Pasig.
