The Fast & Furious franchise may be shifting into overdrive with its next and possibly final installment, and Filipino fans could soon see the action race straight into their own backyard.
At a recent appearance at FuelFest in Los Angeles, Vin Diesel made headlines after revealing his dream conditions for Fast & Furious 11, the highly anticipated finale to the long-running franchise. Among those conditions? Bringing the film back to its roots in street racing, reintroducing the late Paul Walker’s iconic character Brian O’Conner—and possibly filming in the Philippines.
“I’ve always wanted to shoot in the Philippines” — Vin Diesel
While Diesel’s remarks about the return of Brian O’Conner grabbed global attention, Filipino fans were especially thrilled by the actor’s renewed interest in setting a Fast film in the archipelago. “I’ve always wanted to shoot a Fast film in the Philippines,” Diesel once said during a previous press junket, a quote that has now resurfaced and gained traction following the FuelFest announcement.
The actor-producer emphasized that Universal Pictures has agreed to move forward with Fast 11 on three key conditions:
A return to the street racing roots that made the franchise a cultural phenomenon.
A narrative thread that brings Brian O’Conner back into the story.
A global shooting slate that “honors the fans worldwide.”
“If we’re going out, we’re going out the way we came in—fast, furious, and full of heart,” Diesel told the crowd.
Will the Philippines finally join the ride?
Rumors have long swirled that previous entries in the franchise used aerial shots or second-unit footage filmed in Southeast Asia, possibly including parts of the Philippines. While no official confirmation was ever made, fans have speculated that some landscape sequences in Fast & Furious 6 resembled the countryside of Batangas or Zambales.
Local production insiders have also claimed that Universal scouted sites in Manila and Cebu for Furious 7, but plans reportedly fell through due to scheduling conflicts and security concerns.
This time, however, the interest appears more serious. According to an executive familiar with location planning, Universal is eyeing Southeast Asia as a “key region for fan engagement,” with the Philippines now high on the list due to its massive fanbase and Diesel’s personal interest.
“If you think about the passion, the culture, and the energy here—it’s perfect for Fast & Furious,” the source said.
Bringing brian back
The emotional cornerstone of Diesel’s announcement was the potential return of Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner. Walker tragically passed away in a car accident in 2013 while filming Furious 7. His final scenes were completed with the help of CGI and body doubles—his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker stepped in to help finish the film in his honor.
So how exactly will Brian return?
Diesel remained cryptic but emotional, saying, “This finale won’t feel right unless Brian is part of it. It has to be done with love, care, and authenticity. We owe that to Paul, his family, and the fans.”
One possible method being explored is a respectful CGI recreation, guided by the Walker family, similar to what was done in Furious 7. Others speculate that Brian may appear in flashbacks or as part of a symbolic scene that brings the franchise full circle.
Paul Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, already made a cameo in Fast X as a flight attendant, marking her subtle entry into the universe her father helped build.
The road to 2027
Diesel confirmed that Fast & Furious 11 is scheduled for release in April 2027, marking over two decades of high-octane storytelling. The film will serve as the epic conclusion to one of Hollywood’s most enduring franchises.
With Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Gal Gadot confirmed to reprise their roles, and Diesel’s vision of including both legacy characters and new locales, Fast 11 is shaping up to be the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet.
For Filipino fans, the idea of seeing Vin Diesel revving through EDSA traffic or a drag race set against the skyline of Bonifacio Global City is more than exciting—it’s history in the making.
A love letter to the fans
“The end isn’t just about explosions and cars—it’s about the people who rode with us from day one,” Diesel said. “And that includes the fans in the Philippines.”
If plans push through, Fast & Furious 11 might not just return to its roots—it could plant new ones in the heart of Southeast Asia.
