Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Sunday said no one was injured in a road incident involving a vehicle that hit bollards, noting that the barriers functioned as intended.
In a Facebook post, Sotto raised concerns about the quality of some local government infrastructure projects, saying shortcomings are sometimes beyond the technical expertise of elected officials.
He said substandard construction remains a recurring problem in both public and private sector projects.
The mayor said Pasig City has initiated third-party and civil society organization participation in infrastructure monitoring, although he did not elaborate on the details.
Sotto said procurement reforms have resulted in lower winning bids and reduced project costs for the city.

However, he stressed the need for tighter supervision by engineering staff to ensure contractors comply with project specifications.
The mayor said he has observed improvements in the quality of infrastructure projects implemented by the Pasig City government.
He cited the city’s “back-to-bangketa” initiative, which aims to address road congestion by reclaiming pedestrian spaces.
Sotto said new projects prioritize the removal of encroachments, sidewalk widening, and drainage improvements.
He added that these efforts are part of Pasig City’s long-term reforms to improve urban infrastructure and road safety.
