The United States has reaffirmed its “ironclad commitment” to the security of the Philippines, emphasizing its continued support for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and defense modernization efforts.

US Ambassador Lee Lipton underscored the strength of the longstanding alliance between Manila and Washington, citing joint military exercises, defense assistance, maritime cooperation, and support for the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The ambassador said these initiatives reflect Washington’s commitment to strengthening the Philippines’ defense capabilities and enhancing cooperation in addressing regional security challenges.

The renewed assurance comes as the Philippines and the United States mark the 75th anniversary of their Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT), which serves as the foundation of their longstanding defense alliance.

Under the treaty, both countries recognize their mutual obligations in responding to armed attacks in the Pacific area, subject to their respective constitutional processes.

Washington also reiterated its commitment to working closely with Manila in safeguarding Philippine sovereignty and territorial integrity amid continuing maritime security challenges in the region.

The Philippines and the United States have maintained close defense relations through joint military training, military assistance, and cooperation aimed at improving the AFP’s operational readiness and capabilities.
