MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reopened the northbound lane of the Pasig Boulevard-C5 Flyover Monday noon.
In an interview, DPWH Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez said they have successfully completed the necessary finishing works to ensure a safe journey for vacationers heading back to Metro Manila after the Undas holidays.
Lopez and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the road reblocking works on the inner lanes of EDSA –stretching from Nepa Q-Mart in Cubao, Quezon City, to Guadalupe, Makati.
Lopez said these specific repairs are part of the ongoing EDSA Rehabilitation Project Phase 2.
Meanwhile, Lopez said the southbound lane of the flyover will be reopened early Tuesday morning.
“We are working hard to ensure the roads are ready for motorists returning from the provinces,” he said.
All motorists are advised to observe road safety measures and traffic signages, and to exercise caution when traversing the flyover.
“The DPWH carried out these repairs because they were necessary. The long weekend provided the right opportunity, and the work was done for the safety of our motorists,” Lopez said.
At the same time, the DPWH also opened the EDSA Busway on Monday morning.
“Similarly, work on the EDSA Busway began on October 30, and the team has been working around the clock. We will reopen the lanes this morning, November 2,” he added.
Lopez said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the continuation of the extensive EDSA rehabilitation, directing that the reopened sections be made available as quickly as possible.
This ensures smooth and efficient travel for motorists and commuters returning from various provinces following the observance of Undas (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day).
Lopez said the ongoing rehabilitation ensures the uninterrupted continuation of the highway improvement project, which was initiated in December 2025 under the directive of former Secretary and now DOTr chief Dizon.
He added the project will ultimately benefit motorists, commuters, pedestrians, and cyclists. (PNA)
