Two air quality monitoring stations in the City of Manila recorded levels classified as “unhealthy for sensitive groups” as of 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, according to the city’s Department of Environment and Public Services (DEPS).
Monitoring sensors at Puregold Tayuman and San Sebastian Residences registered unhealthy for sensitive groups (UFSG) Air Quality Index levels.
Meanwhile, three other monitoring sites — Anda Circle, Sta. Ana Hospital and Rajah Sulayman Park — recorded “fair” air quality.
The Manila city government advised members of sensitive groups, including people with asthma and other respiratory conditions, senior citizens, children and pregnant women, to limit prolonged outdoor activities, particularly in areas experiencing poorer air quality.
The monitoring forms part of the city government’s Hinga Maynila initiative aimed at tracking air quality and reducing potential health risks to residents.
Earlier Wednesday, several areas in Metro Manila also recorded elevated levels of air pollution, prompting authorities to remind the public to take precautions and monitor air quality advisories.
