MANILA — Twenty-seven Filipinos involved in a fatal bus accident in Bavaria, Germany, are returning to Milan, while four others remain hospitalized for continued medical treatment, the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt said Wednesday.
The consulate said arrangements are also underway for the repatriation of the remains of two Filipinos who died in the crash. Both fatalities were based in Italy.
A team led by Consul General Marie Yvette Banzon Abalos is in Munich to coordinate assistance for the affected Filipinos and their families. Consular officials have also spoken with doctors treating the injured passengers to assess their condition and determine the assistance they need.
The accident occurred Sunday when a chartered coach carrying 33 Filipino tourists overturned near Buchloe in Bavaria. The group was traveling to Munich for Oktoberfest.
Seventeen Filipinos were seriously injured in the crash, while two died.
The Philippine Consulate General said it continues to coordinate with relevant authorities and medical facilities to assist the affected Filipinos and their families.
