Turkey rejected a European Parliament resolution on Cyprus on Thursday night, dismissing it as invalid and accusing the European Union of taking a biased position on the long-running dispute.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the resolution contained unfounded allegations against the Turkish Armed Forces.
Ankara said the measure adopted by the European Parliament had no effect as far as Turkey was concerned.
The ministry also expressed support for the response issued by the Foreign Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Turkey said the resolution reflected what it described as the European Parliament’s distorted approach to the Cyprus issue.
The ministry accused EU institutions of being influenced by certain groups in dealing with the dispute.
It also raised concern over what it viewed as the EU’s increasingly one-sided treatment of the Cyprus issue.
Ankara said European institutions should approach the matter in a way that reflects historical realities and impartiality.
