US President Donald Trump said Monday that Washington may shift its attention to Cuba after concluding military actions linked to Iran, renewing speculation about the next focus of US foreign policy.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump described Cuba as a struggling state and suggested it could be “next” on his agenda once current operations are completed.

He also pointed to Cuban Americans in the US, saying many had faced past hardships tied to developments in the island nation.

Trump’s remarks added to a series of statements in recent months indicating a tougher stance toward Havana amid widening geopolitical tensions.

In response, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel rejected any justification for potential US military action and warned that Cuba would resist any external aggression.

He also criticized US sanctions and economic pressure, which Havana says have worsened shortages and power disruptions across the country.

Cuban officials have previously blamed long-standing restrictions for the island’s economic crisis, while US authorities have cited internal structural problems.

Despite tensions, both countries have acknowledged limited diplomatic contact, though the prospects for sustained dialogue remain uncertain.
