WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump said his recent summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping produced “tremendous progress,” describing the talks as lengthy and productive.
Speaking to reporters aboard Marine One, Trump said the meeting with Xi was “incredible” and added that “a lot of good things are happening” following the Chinese leader’s three-day visit to the United States.
The White House said the two leaders agreed to pursue a “constructive relationship of strategic stability” based on respect, fairness and reciprocity.
Trump and Xi also discussed Russia, North Korea and Iran, with both sides agreeing that Iran should not possess a nuclear weapon and that no country or institution should impose tolls on international waterways.
The two countries also established a US-China Super Intelligence Dialogue to discuss the risks and benefits of emerging technologies and agreed to create a communication channel for related incidents.
Trump also advocated trilateral arms control talks involving the United States, Russia and China.
