The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Monday announced its commitment to forging more international partnerships to enhance the quality and global competitiveness of the Philippines’ technical vocational education and training (TVET) programs.
TESDA Secretary Francisco Benitez said recent global engagements in China, Germany, and Canada reflect the agency’s proactive efforts to align Philippine TVET with international standards.
In March, TESDA participated in the 2025 Philippine Nuclear Energy Mission to Canada to explore workforce development opportunities in the nuclear energy sector. “We should be ready with the human resources necessary to support nuclear power plant operations,” Benitez said.
TESDA delegations also visited institutions in China—including Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University and Zhejiang College of Education—to study best practices in curriculum development, dual training systems, digital learning, and qualifications frameworks.
Meanwhile, TESDA officials attended the Hannover Messe 2025 in Germany, one of the world’s largest technology fairs. The insights gained are expected to inform preparations for the 14th WorldSkills ASEAN Competition to be held in Manila in August.
“As we continue to reposition TVET in the Philippines, our global partnerships are crucial in ensuring that our training programs remain relevant, responsive, and future-ready,” said Benitez.
TESDA also maintains an active collaboration with Hungary’s Ministry for Innovation and Technology, focusing on competency standards, research, dual training programs, and workforce mobility.
Additionally, TESDA recently signed an MOU with Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to conduct joint trainings, research, and technology exchanges across both public and private sectors.
TESDA’s Public Information and Assistance Division (PIAD) added that partnerships with multinational firms like FESTO, Siemens, Yalong, and Doosan will play a key role in equipment and skills preparation for WorldSkills ASEAN 2025.
“These global engagements not only strengthen our local capabilities but also promote knowledge exchange that positions the Philippines as a strong player in international vocational training,” PIAD stated.
