BRUSSELS — Diesel prices in Belgium are expected to climb to near-record levels, reflecting continued volatility in global fuel markets.
A report on Tuesday said diesel could hit €2.489 per liter, marking a sharp increase in a single price adjustment and bringing it close to the €2.50 mark.
The projected hike represented a jump of more than 16 cents, one of the steepest recent increases for the fuel.
Authorities attributed the adjustment to ongoing instability in energy markets linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Gasoline prices were also set to rise, though at a slower pace compared to diesel.
The price of 95-octane fuel was expected to increase by 4.4 cents to €1.945 per liter, nearing levels last recorded in late 2022.
Meanwhile, 98-octane gasoline was projected to breach the €2 threshold, climbing by 4.3 cents to €2.027 per liter.
