The death toll from Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) has risen to 33, with over seven million people affected, many still in evacuation centers, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Wednesday.
So far, only one fatality—a resident of Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula)—has been confirmed. The remaining deaths are under validation: 20 in the Cordillera Administrative Region, seven in Region 5 (Bicol), three in Region 3 (Central Luzon), and one each in Regions 6 and 8.
The NDRRMC said 7,539,110 people, or 2,139,837 families, across 14,854 barangays in 16 regions were affected. Currently, 80,720 families are in 3,169 evacuation centers, while 118,356 are seeking temporary shelter elsewhere.
The typhoon has damaged 271,023 houses and destroyed 25,764 more across 14 regions. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered round-the-clock relief and rehabilitation efforts, directing all government agencies to remain on full alert.
