Super Typhoon Champi is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, October 20, and will be assigned the local name Rosal, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 10 a.m. update on Sunday, October 18, PAGASA reported that the eye of the super typhoon was located approximately 2,090 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon.

The powerful tropical cyclone is forecast to move generally west-northwestward and may enter PAR by Tuesday morning or afternoon.

PAGASA said Champi is expected to begin gradually weakening on Tuesday after reaching its peak intensity.

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone wind signals could be raised over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon and parts of the Bicol Region as early as Monday evening, October 19, or Tuesday morning due to the anticipated strong winds.

Residents in potentially affected areas are advised to monitor official PAGASA bulletins, prepare emergency supplies, and follow evacuation and safety advisories from local authorities.
