MANILA – The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Monday signed two formal agreements, the first documents notarized electronically in the country.
First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen attended as guests of honor at the official launch of electronic notarization in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Twala, one of the three providers accredited by the Supreme Court for the initial rollout of the eNotary, led the launch, which aims to simplify online access to notarial services.
Leonen said electronic notarization will improve the delivery of justice in far-flung areas, underscoring the milestone’s significance for the Philippine legal and technology sectors.
Under the agreement, the IBP will provide pro bono legal aid to Twala and other related activities.
Agreement signatories include IBP National President Atty. Allan G. Panolong; UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II, College of Law Dean Gwen Grecia-De Vera; and Twala co-founders and CEO Engr. Jeffrey Reyes and General Counsel Atty. Herminio “Third” Bagro.
As a Department of Science and Technology-backed legal technology startup, Twala provides secure, compliant and accessible digital solutions for the legal community.
The forum highlighted the role of electronic notarization, digital trust and legal technology in shaping the future of legal services in the Philippines.
Built on blockchain and public key infrastructure (PKI), Twala platform enables individuals, businesses and government institutions to execute and manage legally binding digital transactions securely and efficiently. (PNA)
