BACOLOD CITY – Seventy workers in Negros Island Region (NIR) received a total of PHP2.78 million in two separate settlement claims facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under the agency’s Single Entry Approach (SEnA) program.
In a report on Monday, the DOLE-NIR said 50 employees of a cable company were able to secure a settlement of PHP808,101
The amount covered claims involving underpaid wages, service incentive leave, 13th-month pay, and holiday pay for the years 2023 to 2026.
“The workers had previously sought assistance from the media to bring attention to their wage-related concerns. Through DOLE’s SEnA conciliation-mediation process, their concerns were subsequently addressed,” the agency said.
Their concerns were subsequently addressed through a series of conferences through the DOLE’s SEnA conciliation-mediation process, providing both parties an opportunity to discuss the issues and work toward an amicable settlement.
In another case, 20 security guards who sought assistance from the DOLE-NIR in resolving their labor-related concerns received a combined settlement amount of PHP1.977 million.
All three requests were settled through the intervention of single-entry approach desk officers.
In a report, the DOLE-NIR said the settlements covered the workers’ claims involving separation pay, overtime pay, and night shift differentials.
“The successful resolution reflects the importance of providing workers and employers with an opportunity to discuss their concerns, clarify issues, and work toward mutually acceptable agreements,” it added. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
