Sultan Kudarat experienced a magnitude 5.0 earthquake Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Intensities IV and V were felt in the municipalities of Kalamansig and Lebak, according to Phivolcs.

The quake originated 34 kilometers south and 75° west of Kalamansig at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Phivolcs noted that the ongoing earthquake swarm offshore Kalamansig, which began on January 19, has now reached a total of 2,640 tremors as of 9 a.m. Friday.

Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu said no casualties have been reported, describing the event as a test of the province’s “readiness, discipline, and unity as a people.”

He also announced class suspensions across Sultan Kudarat and a partial work suspension, with only remote work allowed except in the most affected municipalities of Kalamansig, Lebak, and Palimbang.

Phivolcs warned that aftershocks may continue but confirmed that no tsunami alerts have been issued.
