COTABATO CITY – Authorities in South Cotabato are investigating three students over alleged online threats of school shootings and social media posts involving a firearm.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. said two 16-year-old students from Barangay Lamian in Surallah town were traced by police after allegedly posting a shooting threat online on Sunday afternoon.
Tamayo said police were preparing possible charges against the two minors while coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development because of their age.
In a separate incident in Tupi town, authorities invited an 18-year-old student for questioning after he allegedly uploaded a video showing himself carrying an unidentified firearm.
Tamayo said the provincial government was also considering possible charges against the student and his parents.
The governor urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities, including their use of social media and the internet.
Meanwhile, police in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat are investigating a 13-year-old student from Barangay Mantiompong over an alleged online post saying he planned to carry out a shooting at Kapingkong National High School.
Police traced the child’s residence and brought him and his parents to the barangay hall for questioning and clarification.
Lambayong police chief Major Jayson Ortega said the investigation remained ongoing and declined to provide further details.
