NEW YORK – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in New York on Sunday to attend the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdogan was welcomed at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Türkiye’s Ambassador to the United Nations Ahmet Yildiz, Ambassador to the United States Sedat Onal, Consul General in New York Muhittin Ahmet Yazal and other officials.
He later proceeded to the Turkish House in Manhattan, where Turkish Americans and other supporters gathered to welcome him.
Speaking briefly to reporters outside the building, Erdogan said he had a busy schedule ahead during the UN General Assembly meetings.
He is expected to address the General Assembly on Tuesday, the opening day of the high-level general debate.
The speech will mark Erdogan’s 16th appearance before the UN General Assembly, where world leaders traditionally outline their governments’ positions on major international issues.
The 81st session of the General Assembly formally opened on Sept. 8 at UN headquarters in New York.
