SM provides modern and open office spaces to cater to fresh ideas from different generations.
In today’s ever-evolving work landscape, one thing is clear: a multigenerational workforce is more than just a statistic—it’s a powerful force for innovation, growth, and shared purpose. At SM, this belief is at the heart of how the company builds its teams, creates its culture, and plans for the future.
From seasoned Baby Boomers to the tech-savvy Gen Z, four generations now work side by side at SM—a vibrant mix of experience, energy, and new ideas. And that’s not just embraced—it’s celebrated.
According to a 2025 World Economic Forum report, this kind of generational diversity is key to unlocking collaboration, expanding mentorship, and driving continuous learning in a tech-driven world. SM Group, under its parent company SM Investments Corporation, is already ahead of the curve.
Across SM’s more than 142,000-strong workforce, Millennials and Gen Xers (ages 30–50) and Gen Z (under 30) each make up 47% of employees, while 6% are over 50. This balance ensures a workplace where wisdom meets innovation—where experience fuels progress, and fresh thinking reshapes tradition.
“Our people are the strongest foundation of SM’s continued growth,” shared Elizabeth Anne ‘Lizanne’ Uychaco, Executive Vice President and Group Diversity Officer at SM Investments Corporation. “That’s why we champion a culture of inclusion and belonging at every level.”
This commitment is especially visible in the company’s push for gender inclusion. Women make up 64% of SM’s workforce and hold 58% of leadership roles—a result of SM’s merit-based advancement practices and its adherence to the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), which it signed in 2022.
Inclusion at SM isn’t just a policy—it’s part of the everyday experience. The group’s Equal Opportunity Framework ensures fair hiring, accessible facilities, and transparent career development. There are 814 breastfeeding rooms for working mothers, 787 PWD-friendly pathways, 171 gender-neutral restrooms, and 19 non-denominational meditation rooms across SM offices and malls—spaces designed to support everyone, regardless of their background or needs.
SM’s investment in learning is just as inclusive. Through the SM Sustainability School, employees are encouraged to future-proof their skills while embracing a sustainability mindset. In 2024 alone, over 43,000 participants took part in 71 specialized learning modules.
“At SM, inclusion isn’t just a principle—it’s a promise,” Uychaco added. “We’re committed to ensuring every person feels valued, heard, and equipped to succeed.”
By embracing diversity and empowering employees across generations and genders, SM is creating a workplace where inclusion isn’t a checkbox—it’s the engine driving growth, innovation, and a more sustainable future for all.
