Two sisters linked to a skincare company were arrested upon returning to the Philippines after authorities found them facing 38 outstanding warrants arising from alleged investment and fraud-related offenses.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said its Anti-Transnational Crime Unit apprehended the sisters at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Pasay City on Sept. 5 following their arrival from Malaysia.
Police identified the suspects only as the owner and operations manager of a skincare business. Their names were not included in the information released by the PNP.
The warrants came from several courts and involved cases for syndicated estafa, swindling, violations of Batas Pambansa Blg. 22 or the Bouncing Checks Law, and alleged breaches of the Securities Regulation Code.
Four of the warrants do not allow bail, while another covers the service of a sentence. Bail recommended for the other 33 warrants amounts to a combined Php 1.967 million, according to the CIDG.
Investigators said the cases stemmed partly from investments allegedly solicited in connection with the sisters’ business. Although the company was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission for skincare, beauty and related activities, police said available records did not show that it had authority to solicit investments from the public.
The sisters remain subject to court proceedings on the cases covered by the warrants. The allegations against them should not be taken as proof of guilt except for any case in which a final judgment has already been rendered.
