Nearly 20,000 liters of fuel and a tanker truck were confiscated in Marinduque after police intercepted an alleged petroleum distribution operation that authorities said lacked the required government permits.
Two people were taken into custody during the Sept. 8 operation in Barangay Bachao Ibaba, Gasan, conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group with Police Regional Office MIMAROPA and other police units.
Investigators alleged that the suspects were dispensing petroleum products from a tanker without the authorization required by the Department of Energy.
The seized fuel totaled about 19,800 liters and consisted of diesel, premium gasoline and unleaded gasoline. Police placed its estimated market value at Php 1.734 million.
Authorities also impounded a 10-wheeler tank lorry estimated to be worth Php 1.804 million. Together, the vehicle and petroleum products were valued at approximately Php 3.5 million.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities are pursuing unauthorized activities involving petroleum products because of their potential implications for public safety and legitimate businesses.
Following the operation, the two suspects and the confiscated items were placed under CIDG custody for documentation and further investigation. Police said appropriate complaints would be filed in connection with the alleged violations.
Authorities did not identify the suspects in the information released or specify the particular petroleum regulations they allegedly violated. The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
