Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has urged law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against the spread of fake news targeting the education sector, highlighting that disinformation leads to confusion and poses risks to public safety.
“For the past few years, the Department of Education has been a regular target of fake news. It’s time we teach a lesson to those spreading false and misleading information about education,” Gatchalian stated in a press release on Thursday.
He warned that misinformation can have serious real-world consequences and stressed the importance of accountability for those responsible. “They can’t keep getting away from spreading false information that sows confusion and even endangers people’s lives,” he added.
Gatchalian also appealed to the public to be more discerning with their sources of information, especially regarding issues that impact children, schools, and the broader education system.
