MANILA – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Sunday ordered the strict enforcement of security perimeter protocols to ensure that only authorized individuals and vehicles can enter restricted areas during the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits on Nov. 15 to 17.

NCRPO acting chief Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said security checkpoints, exclusion zones and identification procedures must be consistently enforced to prevent unauthorized entry, detect suspicious activities and protect foreign delegates, summit participants and the public.

He directed police officers to verify identification documents, credentials and vehicle authorizations, and coordinate closely with venue security teams and local government units.

Abrahano also ordered security units to promptly validate reports of suspicious persons, unusual activities or unattended items near summit venues and other designated security areas.

“Our security perimeter is there for a clear purpose: To prevent unauthorized access and keep potential threats away from our delegates, personnel, and the public. I expect our personnel to enforce every security protocol without exception, but always with professionalism, courtesy and respect for people’s rights,” he said in a statement.

Abrahano issued the directives after joining a high-level inter-agency coordinating meeting on synchronizing security deployments across strategic areas and ensuring operational readiness for the summit.

He also instructed police commanders to monitor public areas near restricted zones and maintain regular communication with district police stations to ensure that concerns involving delegates’ accommodations are promptly addressed.

“Security restrictions are not meant to inconvenience the public but are necessary safeguards for the orderly and safe conduct of the international gathering,” Abrahano said.

He urged establishments accommodating foreign delegates to remain vigilant and coordinate with police personnel.

Major activities of the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
