The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in the Senate is set to begin on July 30, 2025, according to a proposed schedule released by the office of Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
Under the proposed timeline, key dates leading up to the trial include a session on June 2, where the prosecutors will present the Articles of Impeachment, followed by approval of revised rules of procedure for the trial.
The Impeachment Court will convene on June 3, with incumbent senator-judges taking their oaths at 9:00 a.m.
Summons will be issued on June 4, with pleadings being accepted from June 14 to 24.
The pre-trial phase will run from June 24 to July 25.
Other notable dates include the inauguration of the 20th Congress on July 28 and the Joint Session of Congress later that day, when the President will deliver the State of the Nation Address.
Newly-elected senator-judges will take their oaths on July 29, before the Senate sitting as an Impeachment Court.
The formal trial begins on July 30.
The Senate aims to strictly follow this schedule, emphasizing that both the prosecution and defense will have sufficient time to prepare for the trial.
With this in mind, the Senate has made it clear that any attempts to delay the proceedings through motions or pleadings will not be tolerated.
