In 2025, Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) deepened its belief that education remains the country’s most powerful equalizer, delivering measurable nationwide gains despite persistent classroom shortages, disaster-damaged facilities, and nearly 11 million out-of-school Filipino children.
Guided by a holistic, community-centered strategy, the Foundation focused on building and repairing classrooms, strengthening school leadership and teaching systems, supporting scholars, and mobilizing partnerships to improve access to safe, inclusive, and quality learning environments across the country.
Through its Build a School, Build a Nation program, SBFI has now delivered a total of 901 classrooms to 153 public schools across 92 cities and municipalities nationwide, while rehabilitating earlier donations to ensure their long-term use.
The Foundation complemented infrastructure investments with people-focused interventions, training close to 170 principals and teachers, supporting more than 300 scholars, and providing eyeglasses to over 1,000 learners whose vision challenges affected classroom performance.
These efforts were reinforced by strong multi-sector collaboration with government agencies, universities, private corporations, and Security Bank employees. In 2025, SBFI signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education granting nationwide recognition to its principals’ training program and contributed insights to Senate discussions on improving the delivery of public school classrooms.
During the year, the Foundation turned over 62 new classrooms, equivalent to nine school buildings. These included facilities at Sta. Cruz Central Elementary School in Laguna, a pilot site for the Department of Education’s Inclusive Learning Resource Center serving learners with special needs; Tarlac National High School, which supports its Special Program in Sports; and Zamboanga City High School Main, equipped with technical-vocational laboratories for caregiving, cookery, drafting, and dressmaking.
SBFI also repaired 80 classrooms and rehabilitated 48 disaster- or termite-damaged facilities, helping ensure safer and more resilient learning spaces for both students and teachers.
Alongside infrastructure, SBFI continued investing in educators through its Mentoring Future Leaders for Nation-Building program. In 2025, the initiative trained 79 principals and 88 teachers in leadership, mentoring, and school governance, strengthening school systems from within.
One program participant, Carlo Medrano, went on to develop a science mentoring initiative now adopted in several communities, underscoring how empowered educators can create ripple effects across the education system.
Student support remained a key pillar of the Foundation’s work. SBFI supported 302 scholars for Academic Year 2025–2026 and celebrated 103 graduates, including 31 college degree holders. To address barriers beyond academics, the Foundation distributed 1,170 eyeglasses in partnership with Ideal Vision Center and the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of San Francisco del Monte, enabling students like Jake Prades to significantly improve their classroom performance through better vision.
The Foundation’s education programs continued to gain national recognition, earning multiple honors at the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines 21st Philippine Quill Awards and the Public Relations Society of the Philippines 60th Anvil Awards.
These included Quill Awards of Excellence and Merit for employee engagement, corporate social responsibility, and communication management, as well as Anvil Silver Awards recognizing SBFI’s classroom painting initiatives and its “School Building Ko, Aalagaan Ko” campaign.
Looking ahead, SBFI plans to build 60 new classrooms, repair an additional 100 classrooms, expand educator training and scholarship programs, and continue nationwide vision screening initiatives.
“Every classroom we build, every teacher we empower, and every scholar we support brings us closer to a Philippines where progress is inclusive and sustainable,” the Foundation said, reaffirming its long-term commitment to education as a cornerstone of national development.
