Savouge asserted its dominance over VNS-Laticrete with a commanding 25-16, 25-20, 25-23 victory on Wednesday, securing its third win in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.
Mark Frederick Calado led the charge for the Spin Doctors, delivering 18 points off 16 attacks and two blocks. His stellar performance helped the team recover from a tough five-set loss (25-22, 15-25, 25-23, 18-25, 7-15) against the Criss Cross King Crunchers last Sunday.
Sherwin Caritativo made a significant impact with 11 points, 10 receptions, and five digs, while John Daniel Diwa also contributed 11 points, including five crucial blocks. With this win, Savouge maintained third place in the standings with a 3-2 record.
Giles Jeffer Torres added 10 points, including three blocks, while Madzlan Gampong chipped in seven points. Savouge dominated the first two sets before staging a comeback from a three-point deficit in the third, sealing the win in just one hour and 24 minutes.
“Our endgame still needs work. We tend to get complacent when we’re ahead, which we must change,” said Savouge head coach Sydney Calderon. “Good thing we have a second round—so we’ll fix that in training.”
For VNS, Charles Jordan Segui led the effort with 17 points, tallying 15 attacks, two blocks, and 14 receptions. KC Culabat added nine points, 14 receptions, and three digs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the team from suffering its fourth loss in five matches.
Up next, Savouge will take on PGJC-Navy at 6 p.m., while VNS is set to face defending champion Cignal at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
