Roads cleared after Lahar Flow in Guinobatan, Albay

Roads in Guinobatan, Albay affected by lahar flow from heavy rains near Mayon Volcano are now passable after swift clearing operations by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Albay 3rd District Rep. Adrian Salceda confirmed there were no reported casualties and that food supplies were immediately distributed to affected residents.

“We will continue to remain vigilant, as there have been zero reported casualties so far,” Salceda said.

Former Albay disaster chief Cedric Daep, now Salceda’s chief of staff, said distribution of family food packs is ongoing while 11 barangays remain under close monitoring. He stressed the importance of road closures during thunderstorm advisories to prevent lahar-related risks.

Guinobatan Mayor Gemma Ongoco reported that 1,300 families were affected by the lahar flow. Daep added that technical assistance and tailored disaster-response training for all barangays are being prepared, along with potential legislative support for ecological projects in the district.
