House Deputy Minority Leader Terry Ridon on Wednesday dismissed allegations that low participation by some senators at Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) hearings was connected to political funding schemes.
The remarks came after Senator Imee Marcos suggested that absent lawmakers were influenced by funds allegedly aimed at undermining Vice President Sara Duterte.
Ridon clarified that many legislators, including Sandro Marcos, have actively taken part in the ICI process, and warned against assuming a coordinated agenda without evidence.
He stressed that impeachment proceedings are legal mechanisms based on accountability and factual claims, not tied to promises of projects or budget allocations.
“Because impeachment proceedings are not based on projects that are promised, impeachment proceedings are quests for truth and accountability,” Ridon said.
The deputy minority leader also noted that after the constitutional one-year ban on refiling impeachment complaints expires on February 6, lawmakers may choose to file new complaints, but these should remain grounded in law and evidence.
Ridon added that any future impeachment actions should be handled through proper procedures and not be influenced by political or financial incentives, reaffirming that accountability remains the core focus.
