The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported Thursday the arrest of a 28-year-old man after a late-night disturbance involving a homemade firearm in Novaliches earlier this week.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Joven,” a resident of Barangay Gulod, who was apprehended by personnel of the Novaliches Police Station following a citizen’s report.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on February 2, when a caller alerted police about a man creating a commotion along Sta. Barbara Street while allegedly carrying a gun.
Responding officers proceeded to the area to verify the report and found the suspect in possession of an improvised shotgun.
The man was immediately arrested, and police seized a locally made firearm known as a “sumpak” along with one live 12-gauge ammunition.
A background check later showed that the suspect had been previously linked to several cases, including illegal gambling, theft, robbery, and a violation of the Anti-Carnapping Act in recent years.
The suspect was placed in police custody and was set to face charges for alarms and scandals, as well as violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
