The Quezon City government has taken a significant step toward sustainable transportation by launching six brand-new electric buses for its free ride service. Starting January 2, 2025, these e-buses will operate along QCity Bus Route 1, connecting Quezon City Hall and Cubao.
“These new electric buses will be servicing Route 1 of the QCity Bus, from Quezon City Hall to Cubao and vice versa,” the city government announced in a statement.
Each e-bus is equipped with modern features to ensure passenger safety and comfort. With a seating capacity 41, the buses also include wheelchair ramps to enhance accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs). A limited standing capacity further ensures all commuters a safe and comfortable ride.
Traffic enforcers from the city’s Traffic and Transport Management Department have been deployed along the route to support the smooth implementation of the new service.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted the initiative’s environmental benefits, stating that it aligns with Republic Act No. 11697, also known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA Law). The law aims to improve air quality and curb pollution caused by traditional fuel-powered vehicles.
“This initiative reflects the Quezon City government’s commitment to protecting our environment and reducing pollution from conventional vehicles,” Belmonte said.
The QCity e-buses represent an essential addition to the city’s public transport system, complementing the existing fleet of regular buses offering free rides. Other QCity bus routes will continue to operate, connecting key locations such as QC Hall to Litex/IBP Road, Welcome Rotonda to Aurora Katipunan, QC Hall to General Luis, QC Hall to Mindanao Avenue via Visayas Avenue, QC Hall to Gilmore, QC Hall to C5/Ortigas Avenue Extension, and QC Hall to Muñoz.
With this sustainable initiative, Quezon City moves closer to its goal of providing eco-friendly and efficient public transportation while improving its residents’ overall quality of life.
