Authorities in Sultan Kudarat suspend work and classes in Kalamansig and Lebak following a series of earthquakes and the threat of aftershocks.
The order came from Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu through Executive Order No. 97 issued Wednesday morning, Jan. 28. Essential services, including emergency response, health, and critical operations, remain exempt.
A notice posted on the provincial government’s Facebook page emphasized that the suspension is a precautionary measure to safeguard residents.
Phivolcs reported a 4.6-magnitude earthquake at 7:19 a.m., centered 42 kilometers southwest of Kalamansig, triggering several tremors in quick succession.
Instrumental intensities were recorded as Intensity IV in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Intensity II in Norala, South Cotabato; and Intensity I in Banga, South Cotabato and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.
Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMO) are coordinating with the provincial government to monitor conditions, deliver updates, and provide immediate assistance to affected communities.
Mangudadatu urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid unstable buildings, and prepare for potential aftershocks while the suspension remains in effect until further notice.
