President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is steadily recovering from diverticulitis but might remain absent from some public engagements, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Wednesday.
Acting PCO Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed that Marcos recently returned from medical care and is showing steady progress under his doctors’ supervision.
Gomez added that the President will still oversee key responsibilities, but officials including the Executive Secretary and Cabinet members may attend certain events on his behalf.
The Chief Executive spent a night last Wednesday at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City after experiencing discomfort linked to diverticulitis, a condition involving inflammation in small pockets of the colon.
Since his hospital stay, Marcos has held only private meetings at Malacañang and has been represented by other officials in public activities he was scheduled to attend.
On Wednesday, he was supposed to appear at the “Pagpupugay 2025: Parangal sa mga Lingkod Bayani” ceremony but was represented by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto instead.
Palace sources said the President will continue to monitor public duties while prioritizing recovery, signaling a gradual return to full public activity in the coming days.
