The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported Thursday that it is investigating a late-night shooting in Novaliches that left two men dead on February 1.

The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. in front of No. 4 Villareal Street, Brgy. Gulod, Novaliches, where one of the victims, Jonari, was riding a red Yamaha NMAX motorcycle. Witnesses said the suspect, aboard another motorcycle, pulled out a firearm and shot Jonari multiple times.

Police from Novaliches Police Station 4, along with personnel from the District Mobile Force Battalion, responded immediately after hearing the gunfire. Officers pursued the suspects, who fired at them before escaping.

During the chase, a second victim, Eries John, a criminology student riding a bicycle along Quirino Highway in Brgy. Bartolome, was hit by a stray bullet. Both victims were rushed to nearby hospitals but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Police recovered 11 fired 9mm cartridge cases and one deformed bullet at the scene. Jonari was previously involved in a violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, according to QCPD records.

Jonari’s brother said in a sworn statement that he had received death threats in November 2025 and early January 2026 from an individual allegedly involved in illegal drug transactions.

Follow-up operations are ongoing to locate and arrest the perpetrators. One responding officer, whose discharged bullet reportedly struck the second victim, is in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit pending investigation.
