The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has removed the Quezon City fire marshal from his post following allegations of irregularities in a fire extinguisher procurement linked to a private development.
BFP Chief Fire Director Jesus Fernandez issued a special order on January 7, 2026, appointing Fire Superintendent Froilan De Guzman as officer-in-charge while he continues his duties as deputy of BFP–National Capital Region.
The order came after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) received reports concerning a supposed P30-million procurement for a building over 20 storeys along EDSA and Aurora Boulevard, owned by Filinvest Land Inc.
According to DILG sources, the transaction allegedly involved a private supplier and claims of commissions, though details remain subject to verification.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption in the bureau and strengthening accountability measures.
The BFP said it will cooperate fully with ongoing investigations to clarify the matter and determine any administrative or legal liabilities.
Officials stressed that the relief of the fire marshal does not imply guilt but is a precautionary measure while authorities review the case and ensure transparency in the procurement process.
