Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go has formally joined the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, taking his oath as a member of the country’s top monetary policy-making body on January 8 at the BSP head office in Manila.

The oath was administered by BSP Governor and Monetary Board chair Eli M. Remolona Jr., following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s designation of Go as the Cabinet’s representative to the Board.

Go assumes the seat previously held by Ralph G. Recto, bringing with him a blend of public-sector policy experience and private-sector leadership. His appointment comes at a time when monetary authorities are navigating easing inflation, global financial uncertainty, and the need to align monetary policy with the government’s broader growth and investment agenda.

Before taking the helm of the Department of Finance, Go served as Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs, where he played a central role in coordinating the country’s economic and investment strategies.

In that capacity, he chaired the Economic Development Group and worked closely with key agencies including the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, the Department of Budget and Management, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Board of Investments, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, and the Securities and Exchange Commission, helping synchronize fiscal, trade, and investment policies.

Go’s background also includes extensive experience in the private sector. Prior to entering government, he was chief executive officer of Robinsons Land Corporation and held senior leadership roles across a wide range of industries, from media and retail to banking, aviation, petrochemicals, and power.

This breadth of experience is expected to add a market-grounded perspective to Monetary Board deliberations, particularly on issues affecting investment flows, credit conditions, and financial stability.

The Monetary Board, which sets monetary policy and oversees the financial system, is currently composed of Go alongside members Benjamin E. Diokno, Romeo L. Bernardo, Rosalia V. De Leon, Jose L. Querubin, and Walter C. Wassmer.

With Go’s appointment, the Board gains a member whose career bridges policy, investment promotion, and corporate leadership, potentially strengthening coordination between monetary policy and the government’s push for sustained, investment-led growth.

Go holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University.
