The Police Regional Office in Bicol and local government units in Albay offered free rides on Thursday to help commuters cope with the ongoing nationwide transport strike.

PRO-5 chief Brig. Gen. Erosito Miranda said patrol vehicles were deployed to ferry passengers during peak morning hours, with services scheduled to continue throughout the day.

Police assistance desks were set up at key locations, and personnel were assigned to manage traffic and monitor public order during the strike.

The Legazpi City government deployed six vehicles to shuttle passengers along major roads until the evening. Commuters could use the service along main thoroughfares.

The Albay provincial government also provided additional vehicles for its “Libreng Sakay” program, including units covering the Legazpi–Daraga route, while a police truck served the Legazpi–Polangui route.

Some commuters said the service helped them reach work and other destinations with less difficulty.

Miranda said the program aims to assist the public in getting to their destinations safely while the transport strike is ongoing.

He added that the coordinated effort between police and local authorities seeks to reduce inconvenience for commuters during the strike.
