COTABATO CITY – A teenager voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Koronadal City on Monday after police traced a social media message allegedly threatening an attack on a school in Barangay Paraiso.
Police Regional Office-Soccsksargen director Brig. Gen. Alan Manibog said a school official sought police assistance at around 4 p.m. after receiving information about a threatening message linked to the suspect, identified only by the alias “Nino.”
Initial investigation showed that a teacher received the message at around 1 p.m. warning of an attack involving individuals in Barangay Paraiso.
Personnel from the Koronadal City Police Station, Women and Children Protection Desk, intelligence unit and investigation team immediately verified the report and worked to identify the sender.
At around 5 p.m., the teenager appeared at the Barangay Paraiso hall and surrendered to local officials, who turned him over to responding police officers.
Police said the suspect was informed of the reason for his arrest and advised of his constitutional rights before being brought to the police station for further investigation and possible filing of charges.
Manibog urged the public to immediately report threats, particularly those involving schools and communities.
He said police would continue to treat such reports seriously and respond quickly to protect students, teachers and residents.
