The Philippine National Police (PNP) is set to acquire 2,000 new body-worn cameras before year-end, alongside plans to purchase 1,100 new patrol vehicles in 2026, as the government moves to strengthen the police force’s mobility and capabilities.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla affirmed that this push aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to boost peace and order efforts nationwide.

The announcement was made Monday during the blessing of P1.67-billion worth of equipment in Camp Crame, Quezon City. The newly acquired gear included 608 Personnel Carriers and Transport Vehicles, 438 Light and Heavy Motorcycles, 4,989 Protective Gears, 322 Aerial Drones, 505 Mobile Devices, and 3,155 Essential Firearms.

Remulla underscored the critical need to address long-standing mobility gaps within the PNP, which the new vehicles are intended to solve.

“The biggest problem of our PNP is mobility. For Metro Manila especially, we have more than 40,000 police officers but only 500 police vehicles,” Remulla said, emphasizing the disparity.

The Secretary added that the government aims for a significant increase in resources over the coming years. “Our strategy for the rest of 2026 and 2027 is that we should increase our force readiness from the current value; we should add another 2,000 police vehicles for the Philippines,” he said.

In the near term, the procurement process for the 2,000 new body cameras is underway through public bidding, with the PNP projecting final acquisition within 45 days.

The 1,100 new vehicle acquisition is scheduled to be staggered throughout 2026, with 500 new patrol cars expected to arrive in January and the remaining 600 vehicles scheduled for delivery around July.
