The Philippine National Police (PNP) said no untoward incidents were recorded on the first day of the three-day transport strike launched by the group Manibela.
Manibela began the strike on December 9 to protest alleged abuses against jeepney drivers and a supposed bribery scheme within the Land Transportation Office.
“The first day of the strike was peaceful and orderly… No untoward incidents were recorded throughout the day,” acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a Wednesday statement.
“There are two more days and we assure our kababayan that the same level of alertness and the same efforts to assist affected commuters will continue,” he added.
The PNP said it monitored 19 strike centers across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The national police earlier announced it would deploy its vehicles to ferry commuters affected by the protest action.
