The Philippine National Police (PNP) launched intensified inspections of gasoline stations after reports emerged that several outlets temporarily closed amid global oil price increases linked to Middle East tensions.

Authorities flagged concerns that some stations might be hoarding fuel or manipulating prices, which could further burden motorists.

PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez said the police recognize the challenges faced by gas station operators during the current international crisis.

He added that any closures found to be part of illegal schemes would face strict enforcement action.

The Department of Energy (DOE) tapped the PNP to help investigate stations suspected of taking advantage of the fuel shortage, following complaints from consumers and local communities.

Police commanders were directed to coordinate with local officials and DOE personnel to identify the reasons behind the sudden station closures.

A nationwide network of help desks has been established to gather reports from the public on possible fuel hoarding or price manipulation.

PNP personnel will also be deployed near critical supply points to ensure uninterrupted service and monitor compliance with fuel regulations.
