Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida on Monday called on Department of Justice (DOJ) employees and their families to practice energy and fuel conservation at home, citing the continuing tensions in the Middle East.
Vida encouraged staff to bring a spirit of stewardship to their households, saying that even small actions in times of crisis can create significant impact.
The DOJ recently implemented a four-day onsite workweek, requiring personnel to report to the office from Monday to Thursday while observing mandatory work-from-home days on Fridays.
Officials said the adjusted schedule is projected to save around 20,142 kilowatt-hours of energy every month.
Vida emphasized that the collective effort of DOJ employees can help meet challenges while supporting their families and the nation.
Last week, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. certified as urgent a measure granting him emergency powers to suspend or reduce excise taxes on fuel.
The Senate counterpart of the bill was approved by the joint committees on energy and ways and means on March 12.
