The Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified efforts against illegal tobacco operations to protect public safety and ensure fair commerce.

In Silang, Cavite, authorities intercepted a shipment of unmarked cigarettes valued at P6,695,000 that lacked the required health warnings and legal documentation.

The operation led to the recovery of 103 master cases and the arrest of two men, identified by the aliases “Chris” and “Mar,” aged 43 and 31.

They faced charges for violating Republic Act No. 10643, the Graphic Health Warnings Law, and Republic Act No. 9211, the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, for distributing unregistered tobacco products.

PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez emphasized that the law applies to all businesses and individuals. He added that authorities are committed to keeping commerce within legal boundaries and safeguarding consumers and legitimate enterprises.

Officials said illegal products not only endanger consumers but also deprive the government of revenues for public programs. Businesses and transport operators were reminded to check that goods and documentation comply with regulations to avoid involvement in unlawful trade.

The PNP encouraged citizens to report suspicious commercial activities and smuggled goods, noting that public cooperation strengthens law enforcement efforts.

Nartatez added that partnerships with the community make the fight against illegal activity more effective, ensuring accountability and compliance with the law.
