PNP activates special task force for BARMM midterm elections

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched the Special Task Force-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (STF-BARMM) to ensure a peaceful and orderly midterm election.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to safeguard democracy through inter-agency collaboration. “At the core of these initiatives is a strong commitment to securing free and fair elections,” he stated.

Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac, commander of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said STF-BARMM was activated following the Political Candidates Forum and Peace Covenant Signing at the 6th Infantry Division headquarters in Cotabato City. The task force will conduct planning, simulation exercises, and coordinating conferences to refine security measures.

Banac emphasized the support from national leadership and BARMM communities, along with agencies like the Commission on Elections, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Philippine Coast Guard. He expressed confidence in achieving a secure and fair election on May 12. “We cannot fail our leaders and our people. Let us make this happen,” he urged during the activation ceremony in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
