Photo courtesy of Anadolu.At least five people were reported dead while around 170 others were hurt following a joint attack by the United States and Israel on petrochemical facilities in southwestern Iran, according to state media.
The Islamic Republic News Agency cited a local official who said multiple companies in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone in Khuzestan province were struck.
Authorities said those injured received medical attention, with many later released after undergoing outpatient treatment.
Earlier reports from Fars News Agency indicated that several people were initially wounded in strikes affecting Mahshahr and Bandar Imam petrochemical zones.
The same report said facilities including Fajr, Rejal, and Amir Kabir were among those targeted, citing a provincial security official.
Damage was recorded in parts of the Bandar Imam complex, while the Amir Kabir facility was said to have avoided impact.
Tensions in the region have remained high following a joint offensive launched by Washington and Tel Aviv on February 28, which has resulted in more than 1,300 deaths, including Ali Khamenei.
