MANILA, Philippines — Carlos Yulo is ready to resume his pursuit of more glory.
Fresh off being named Athlete of the Year at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night on Monday, Yulo shared that he is back in training after a well-deserved break following his historic achievements at the Paris Olympics.
The 23-year-old gymnast made history in Paris, becoming the Philippines’ first-ever double Olympic gold medalist. His remarkable feat earned him his first Athlete of the Year award, a fitting recognition for his dedication and success.
After the Olympics, Yulo took time off to recover and recharge. He returned to training this January with a clear focus: preparing for a busy year ahead.
Among the key events on his calendar are the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in June, the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in October, and the Southeast Asian Games in December.
Yulo, mindful of the demands on his body, is pacing himself as he shakes off the rust from his extended break.
“I’m taking things slow to avoid injuries,” he said, emphasizing the importance of careful preparation in his journey toward further accomplishments.
As he sets his sights on another competitive season, Yulo is poised to continue making history for Philippine gymnastics – and Philippine sports in general.
