Tagaytay and Batangas remain safe for Holy Week activities and Visita Iglesia despite Taal Volcano being under Alert Level 1, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) assured on Wednesday.
“Yes, Batangas and Tagaytay remain generally safe for visitors and tourists, including those doing Visita Iglesia,” said Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.
Bacolcol reminded the public, however, that Taal Volcano is still under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest. Entry to Taal Volcano Island, especially the main crater, is strictly prohibited due to the risk of steam-driven explosions and exposure to high volcanic gas concentrations.
“As a precaution, we advise tourists to stay informed through official Phivolcs bulletins,” he added.
