The Philippines is set to field a contingent of 11 athletes for the Thailand Open Track and Field Championships, which will take place from June 22 to 25 in Pathum Thani province.
Headlining the team are national standouts Clinton Bautista (110m hurdles, 4x100m), Anfernee Lopena (100m, 4x100m), Pi Wangkay (100m, 4x100m), Kent Jardin (long jump, 100m, 4x100m), and Ronne Malipay (triple jump, 4x100m), along with Harry Diones (triple jump), Carlos De Imus (10km race walk), Junel Gabotia and Joida Gagnao (3000m steeplechase), and javelin throwers Ana Espenilla and Evalyn Palabrica.
They will be accompanied by coaches Jeoffrey Chua, George Posadas, and Danilo Fresnido.
Among the delegation, Carlos De Imus has been a standout performer, recently topping the men’s 10km race walk at the Philippine Open held at New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Capas, Tarlac. The 24-year-old clocked 46 minutes and 11.11 seconds, improving on his previous best of 48:21.93 set during the 2024 Philippine Open at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
A University of Santo Tomas graduate and a member of the Philippine Army, De Imus officially joined the national team after setting a national record of 1:30.03 in the 20km event at the Asian Race Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan last March 16.
The Thailand Open is a crucial part of the Philippines’ build-up toward the Southeast Asian Games, which will also be held in Thailand this coming December.
